The project MACROwall: Eighties are Back! wants to reinterpret Italian art of the Eighties thorough a cycle of exhibitions featuring 10 artists whose different researches have characterized the production of the decade. Each artist is invited to display on the same wall two of his most representative works, an “historical” one and a more recent one, in order to allow the public to rediscover the vitality of art forms in the last years. The works are accompanied by critical reviews coming from two different generations: the younger art critic will interpret the “historical” work and vice versa.
The second appointment of MACROwall: Eighties are Back! focuses on Luigi Carboni (Pesaro 1957), painter and sculptor. The artist’s paintings result from the juxtaposition of abstract or figurative patterns that create ambiguous and mysterious links, in order to compose sophisticated sign maps and images, rich in symbolic and poetic sparks. The objects included in the work increase the links to other concepts such as risk, chance and leisure. The works exhibited at MACRO highlight the evolution of the artist’s painting practice, never neglected since his beginnings in the early Eighties: the use of monochrome as the unifying element of an open language code, affording multiple and complex interpretations.
Luigi Carboni (Pesaro, 1957) has exhibited his works in various private art galleries in Europe and USA, such as the Jack Shainman Gallery New York; Jack Shainman Gallery Washington; Galleria Lumen Travo, Amsterdam (1988); Galleria Alberto Weber, Torino; Studio Scalise, Napoli; Studio La Città, Verona; Studio Barnabò, Venezia; Galleria Franca Mancini, Pesaro; Galleria Giò Marconi, Milano; Otto Gallery, Bologna, Galleria Patricia Faure, Santa Monica Los Angeles; Sale del Castellare Palazzo Ducale, Urbino (2006).
